Once
Once, I was a girl, a little girl with big dreams. Doesn´t that sound like a cliché? Although it might sound like that, it´s a truth. I believe that many people have dreams or at least have some things they want to accomplish. Mine was to become an actress. It didn´t have to be a wealthy one with a crazy house in Hollywood, just an actress, to project my inner work to the audience.
I don´t have a title, I don´t have my BA degree, yet. But what I do know is that I took my steps even further.
After finishing my three years of Theatre Arts in secondary school, I moved on to Madrd, Spain. There I studied Film Acting for a year. Had a great time, but I didn´t want to finish my career there. That´s why I moved back home to Sweden for almost two years, were I worked to earn some money. While working, I felt that I wasn´t doing the right thing. I had had the dream of studying in California since a child and that was what I was aiming for.
When accomplishing working during 1½ year, I sent all my papers and application to Santa Monica College in California. A month later, I was accepted to a pretty huge college in the Los Angeles area, and three months later, I was on a plane with my fiancé – Freddie, preparing for a new life together in the U.S.
That year, that year was fantastic. A crazy, fun, lovely year, filled with people I love very much – my friends, I had to decide whether stay there or move back to Europe. My dream crashed, bang gone. Not because of the country, the people or the beautifulness everywere, but because of the system. As an international student, the rights are not the same as an American. The dream of obtaining an American title of what I want to do, kind of died. Since I do not have the funds to pay from $17 000 /year- $50 000/year, I chose another path.
My new adventure is called London. In one week I´ll live there and shortly after that, I´ll becoma a student at London Metropolitan University. Why I chose England… it´s much cheaper for us who are EU citizens. We pay as much as I did for Santa Monica College, around $5000/year. So… I´m going to study there for three years, get my BA degree and then go back to California, which is where I want to live my life with my fiancé and our future family.
As you can see, I tried, dared, found out and experienced something really great, what I wanted to do. Unfortunately, there were other things in my way – money issues. Just because I got this obstacle on my journey, it doesn´t mean that I´m giving the whole idea up. I´ll be back in Cali, the sooner, the better.
